Crossing Borders: Teaching and Learning Mathematics with Immigrant Students

Teacher professional development and mentoring; co-planning and co-teaching mathematics lessons for immigrant students in schools sponsored by the Lutheran Social Services of Michigan; coordinating visits of these students to MSU university courses so future teachers can experience firsthand how to teach mathematics to English learners. Participating teachers developed a new approach to teaching mathematics that focuses on student strengths and resources rather than on deficits and impediments. Genesee, Ingham, Wayne counties.
